Artists’ handmade paper made from the inner bark or bast fibre of lokta.
Important This paper will arrive folded, and posted in a smaller box than the size of the paper listed. We will try and minimise the crease by gently folding rather than adding a firm crease where possible. However, the paper will have a crease or fold. This allows us to sell these papers at a much more affordable price, and without minimum quantities. If you would like flat sheets they are available in store. Unfortunately we can't post flat, due to the size.
Lokta is darker toned and has a harder surface than mitsumata. It is a native plant of the Himalayan foothills found above 3000 metres. Lokta is a sustainable and renewable resource. Plants are cropped above ground level and can be reharvested after 3-4 years.
The papers are made using the traditional Nepalese floating mould method in which the pulp is poured onto the paper frame. The paper is sun dried on the frame. Vegan.
