Paper Stumps & Colour Blending

Blending is where a drawing truly comes alive — the moment when individual marks dissolve into smooth, seamless tone. Whether you're working in graphite, charcoal, pastel, or coloured pencil, having the right blending tool to hand makes all the difference between a flat drawing and one with real depth and dimension.

Our blending collection covers every technique and medium, from traditional paper stumps and tortillons to blender pencils, blender pens, and specialist blending mediums.

Paper Stumps & Tortillons

The classic blending tool for graphite, charcoal, and pastel. Tightly wound paper stumps (also called tortillons) allow you to blend and soften marks with precision, working into small areas or sweeping across larger passages of tone. Available in a range of sizes.

Blender Pencils

Colourless pencils with a wax or oil-based core that blend and burnish coloured pencil marks without adding pigment. Ideal for smoothing out pencil strokes, intensifying colour, and achieving a polished, painterly finish.

Blender Pens

Solvent-based blender pens dissolve coloured pencil and marker pigment for smooth, fluid blending effects — particularly effective with wax-based coloured pencils and alcohol markers.

Pencil Blending Mediums

Specialist mediums that can be applied to the paper surface or over pencil marks to aid blending, increase colour intensity, and improve the overall finish of coloured pencil work.
