A5 Sketch book, handprinted cover and back. 16 sheets of 150 gsm Khadi cotton paper. Using the finest cotton papers, artist Andrea Girling creates beautiful hand bound books. Each cover is painted by hand, using ink. Andrea is a Norfolk artist and is a proud supplier of PaperStory as well as National Trust properties. Using only the finest of materials, her work is beautiful.
Repetition is a reoccurring theme in her work. The act of repeating a process over and over is not only a way of gaining better understanding but also a way of slowing down. Andrea finds the practice meditative as she loses herself in cutting, folding, stitching and drawing.
The mark-making found on the covers is influenced by simple geometric patterns that are found in both nature and man-made structures. Unlike mass-produced books imperfections may be visible but she believes this adds to their uniqueness and shows the history of their making.
