When working with Canson Velvet paper, particularly if you are accustomed to Pastelmat, you’ll need to modify your pastel approach. The firm, textured surface of Canson Velvet offers a uniform colour and a sturdy foundation. However, its durability may cause some pastel pencils to glide unevenly over the surface.
This characteristic is not a defect of the paper and affects only a few pencil colours. We recommend using softer pencils like Carbothello, Caran d'Ache, Unison, or PanPastel for optimal results on this surface. Applying colour with the pencil’s edge can also be effective.
