Watercolour Mediums

Watercolour mediums let you push your painting further — altering the behaviour, texture, and finish of your colours to achieve effects that paint alone can't deliver. Whether you're preserving highlights, enhancing granulation, or improving flow, there's a medium for every technique.

  • Ox Gall — improves the flow and adhesion of watercolour, reducing surface tension for smoother, more even washes
  • Masking Fluid — protect areas of your paper while you paint freely around them; peel away to reveal crisp white highlights
  • Granulation Medium — encourages pigments to granulate and settle into the paper's texture for beautiful, organic effects
  • Gum Arabic — increases transparency and gloss, slows drying time, and enhances colour depth
  • Lifting Preparation — applied before painting, it allows colour to be lifted cleanly from the paper even after drying
  • Dorland's Wax — a resist medium applied to paper to repel watercolour, creating texture and preserving the white of the paper
  • Watercolour Ground — transform almost any surface into a watercolour-receptive ground; paint on wood, canvas, board, and more
