Derwent Lightfast Coloured Artist Pencils tin of 72. Derwent Lightfast pencils. Derwent's first oil-based coloured pencil, 100% lightfast and with a smooth texture that is a real joy to work with.

The revolutionary core is resistant to prolonged colour change ensuring artwork will not fade for up to 100 years under museum conditions. Derwent Lightfast pencils are oil-based, smooth and creamy with a beautiful laydown of rich colour. What's more, they can even be used with a medium giving a painterly effect when dissolved.
The thick core gives a dense colour application which brings vibrancy to any drawing. Available in a range of 36 lightfast colours, artwork created will remain lightfast for up to 100 years under museum conditions. All colours comply with international lightfast testing standard, ASTM D-6901, and tested in Arizona, US.

Layering
Oil-based coloured pencils offer great control over colour layering. See how multiple applications, and varying pressure, can produce different effects. This will be useful for bringing depth to your work. With the opaque laydown of Derwent Lightfast oil-based pencils, dark colours applied with the precision of a hard sharp point will sit over lighter shades for effective outlining and defining negative space.

Mixing
Over larger areas, layered colours will naturally mix. Rather than limiting your palette to the choices straight out of the tin, expand your colour range by tinting and mixing colours directly on the paper surface. This will create a more natural look to your work. See how pigments completely integrate to form a new and vibrant colour.

Blending
An oil-based binder offers unique blending properties. The thick core of Derwent Lightfast allows for dense and even colour application.Work the pigment into the tooth of the paper with lighter colours or a solvent medium to even out the application to create a painterly effect.

Pressure
Controlling the pressure of the pencil is vital for smooth colour application. Light pressure deposits a minimum amount of pigment to the paper and is ideal for the first colour of a layering sequence, rendering light or creating delicate shadings. Normal pressure provides good application of colour to render mid values and tones, backgrounds and finer detailing. Use heavy pressure for dense colour application when burnishing and creating dark values at the last stages of layering.
Derwent Lightfast pencils have been formulated to be 100% lightfast. The revolutionary core is resistant to prolonged colour change ensuring artwork will not fade for up to 100 years under museum conditions. Its smooth oil base creates a rich vibrancy and can be mixed on the page to create a paint-like effect.
Made from the finest raw materials and the purest pigments, all colours comply with internationally recognised lightfast testing standards ASTM D6901 and Blue Wool Scale ISO 105.
